Graphin Design: 2 Goodies
COLGATE TOOTH PASTE
They are used in our daily life 1-2 or even
3 times a day depending on the person using it. The basic function of a tooth
paste is to clean our mouth and provide you with a fresh and a good smell.
Advantages
New Colgate Total toothpaste is clinically
proven to provide non-stop 12 hour protection against bacteria and long-lasting
protection against the most common dental problems, including:
Enamel Erosion, Sensitive Teeth, Bad Breath,
Staining, Tartar, Plaque, Gum Problems and Cavities.
However Colgate does not help much in the
environment, but makes it easy to communicate with other people with confident
and not being scared of bad smell coming out of our mouth or showing
cavities in our teeth.
Disadvantages
I wonder what where does the tooth paste go
that we spit out? Down the drainage and ultimately reaching the waterway. With its entire chemical present inside.
Well let's see what ingredients does
colgate or any tooth paste contain and are listed in the product package. Well
I couldn't find many ingredients listed aside from a mention of fluoride.
Fluoride itself is a hotly debated topic in terms of environmental impact –
it's also a cumulative poison.
I did a deeper search and came across an
article by Michael Bloch and form her research I found out the ingredients that
are listed in my tooth paste and some which are
Triclosan,
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) ,Detergents, Binding agents ,Humectants,
Artificial flavoring, Artificial colors, Preservatives such as Methylparaben
and Ethylparaben, Pyrophosphate, Potassium nitrate, Lauryl sarcosinate
,Polyethylene glycol ,Polypropylene, glycol ,Sodium saccharin/aspartame.
Aside from the Baking soda and perhaps
Pyrophosphate – although anything phosphate based isn’t a great thing to be
introducing to our already phosphate ladened waterways as far as I know.
Triclosan is a registered pesticide, used as
an antibacterial and antifungal agent and can destroy fragile aquatic
ecosystems. Potassium nitrate is also an
aquatic environmental nasty; parabens can disrupt the hormones in animals and
so on and so on. The artificial flavors and sweeteners (more toxic chemicals)
are there to cover up the taste of the other chemicals
Over 300 people in Panama died in early 2007
due to toothpaste tainted by substance called diethylene glycol. It's a
chemical used in anti-freeze. Ingestion causes kidney failure, paralysis and
often death.
Television
Television (TV) is a telecommunication
medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochrome
(black-and-white) or colored, with or without accompanying sound.
Advantages
While sitting in our homes, we can watch all
kinds of programs which are televised. Many educative and informative programs
can also be shown on the televisions which are of great help to the students
and the masses. The people can be imparted much information and education
through the television programs.
Now, there is no need of going to a cinema
house to see the pictures. One can enjoy the films while sitting at one's own
house, among the members of the family. Many dramas can also be shown on the
television. Through folks, delivered by the eminent scholars the people can be
informed about the latest happenings and the current problems. The politicians,
scientists, social workers and other eminent persons can talk to the people
directly through the medium of television. Thus the benefits of television are
numerous. People can hear the point of view of all eminent persons, which can
greatly help them in forming their opinions. They can gain a huge fund of
information regarding, science, political and social problems.
The television can also play a very
important part in educating the people regarding the corruption, prevailing in
the social and political spheres. The people can be taught not to give or take
bribes. They can also be advised to help the government in curbing black-marketing,
smuggling, hoarding etc.
Disadvantages
Of course, with its advantages the
television also has certain disadvantages. If a person spends too much time in
watching television every day, then he will become lazy and shirk work. He
would like to sit idle and waste his time. If one sees pictures from a close
distance on the television set, it affects the eye-sight. It is thus very risky
for the small children who always sit very close to the television set. The
students also get the bad habit of seeing films on the television. During the
television time the students do not pay any attention to their studies which
will affect their educational career. The use of television set also increases
the electricity bill greatly.
Inspire of all these disadvantages, the
advantages are definitely more and the disadvantages are out-weighted. In the
field of education and entertainment its vast importance cannot be denied. Of
course, the Government should also show purposeful and good programs on the
television to increase its utility. The cost of the television sets should also
be reduced so that even ordinary persons can afford to purchase them.
